Available from cheese shops, on markets and directly from farm producers.
To promote traditional local cheese production, a special cheese was launched in 1906, by the Bougon company. This cheese was Chèvre-boîte du Poitou. The idea was to package the product in a box in order to preserve its flavour and character which is produced using traditional techniques.
This pure goat’s cheese is made from thermized or pasteurised whole milk.
Milk-producing farms are located in Poitou-Charentes and breeders adhere to the mutual code of good practice in goat farming. At least 60% of the food used to feed goats comes from Poitou-Charentes. Milk is collected within 48 hours and regular organoleptic testing is carried out on the product.
