An emblematic plant of the Poitevin marshlands, garden angelica is a biennial plant from the family of Umbelliferae, recognisable by its thick, fluted stem and unique flavour.
Fans of this plant (producers, artisans, processors and restaurateurs) wanted to promote the taste of a product typical to the region, while guaranteeing the origin of production and preserving the savoir-faire related to it.
Since May 2006, the confit Angélique de Niort garden angelica has been regionally recognised and bears the ’Sign‚ Poitou-Charentes’ quality mark. The garden angelica compote, jam and cream have also been regionally recognised since 2010.
Today, whether they produce, process, consume or espouse the merits of the Angélique de Niort garden angelica, they are all grouped under the association that promotes it: the Association de Promotion de l’Angélique Niort-Marais Poitevin.
