Greengage have a golden green flesh. These plums mature between the end of July and start of August. Producers in the South-West gained a Label Rouge which guarantees the optimum stage of maturity. Greengage or ‘Reine Claude’ in French owes its name to Claude of France, the first wife of François 1st who was nicknamed ‘the good queen’.

In Aquitaine it is almost exclusively produced in the Lot-et-Garonne department.
