In shops, at markets and in local butcher’s.
Rabbit farming in Poitou-Charentes represents over 11% of national production, with almost 1 million people involved.
As well as the region’s classic rabbit production, the Poitou Rex Rabbit is also significant. It comes from traditional local rabbit breeds which have been in the region for many years. Only a few farmers breed this rabbit and the Poitou Rex Rabbit is a collective trademark which they have registered. This mark guarantees exceptional quality rabbits who are exclusively fed on maize, lucerne, rapeseed and wheat and who are slaughtered at 18 months (instead of 10 like in usual production).
