You will have no problem finding Sarments du Médoc. Greengrocer’s, confectioner’s shops, chocolate shops and even supermarkets.
Originally; a mistake. Here is how a simple mechanical error created one of the most famous chocolate sticks. In 1969, the Margaux chocolate shop was set up in Médoc, more specifically in Margaux. Production then turned to manufacturing Guinettes and chocolate bars. When the latter were being made, a mechanical problem led to winding sticks coming out, strangely resembling the shape of vine shoots or ‘sarments’ in French; these shoots form the basis of the region’s beautiful vineyard landscapes and many people enjoy grilling meat over them. The sarments du Médoc come from the vine and are now a regional, national and even international success.
