On local markets and directly from farm producers
In 2008, cheese and poultry producers decided to promote their production method which they handle from start to finish, from producing, processing and selling their produce directly. To achieve this, they joined forces under the ‘Fermier Signé Poitou-Charentes’ quality initiative.
A common base of farm products were established to ensure farming remains part of a logical approach to sustainable agriculture. Two specifications were agreed : unpasteurised goat’s cheese, and lean and fatty poultry.
Cheese production is guaranteed to be produced using the traditional method (ladle moulding by hand), unpasteurised milk directly from the farm and processing carried out on site, encouraging the herd’s food self-sufficiency of non-GMO feed (less than 0.9%). There are currently around a dozen authorised producers of unpasteurised goat’s cheese.
