Val de Sèvres has been historically connected to poultry farming for centuries. Production was commercialised in the 19th and 20th centuries at regional poultry markets. Produced across a large section of the Deux-Sèvres department, Val de Sèvres poultry has benefited from Protected Geographical Indication (P.G.I.) since 1995 which guarantees its origin and farming characteristics that comply with particular specifications.
