The foie gras duck from south west France is a Protected Geographical Indication (P.G.I.) that has been recognised since 2000 at a European level, guaranteeing the geographical origin of products from this duck such as the magret, confit, tenderloins and of course its foie gras.
The specifications designate all products from a domestic Muscovy drake or a mulard drake that is reared, fattened with corn, slaughtered and processed in the south west of France. The geographical production area covers the greater south-west area of France and includes the following appellations: Chalosse, Gascogne, Gers, Landes, Périgord and Quercy.
